I have to admin that I am not a fan of animal sports. I am worried for the animals. It seems silly to me to risk the animal health of dog or horses for fun and what is more for money. But when you see them how enjoy run the lure... I gave in and decided to take part in few training with Valentina and if she is gifted, I will eventually get my licence and try to contest.
Immediately the first race (seeing the lure for the very first time) she fixed perfectly the lure, did not hesitate at all and raced the solo race like a pro. It was said to have succeeded as most of the dogs do not even start or finish their first race. Valentina also accomplished the second race which was even longer. The weather spoilt us too as it was all sunny although it was cold and windy.
I have four whippets at home. My first one Angelika who adored running unfortunately almost lost her life in her 15 months when racing. She bares the consequences that do not permit her to run any more. The second one Karlyn runs voluntarily only if it is for food. If I wanted to take Karlyn to the training, could suggest to replace her lure with a piece of meat but I am afraid it won't pass. The bottom line is that if I omit Berroo as she is too young, the only one to represent our family in coursing is Valentina. We will see ...
